As a result of the law “An Act Relative to Natural Gas Leaks,” in 2015, Massachusetts natural gas utilities began publicly reporting the location of leaks along their natural gas pipelines, classified by severity and age. The quantity of leaks has made headlines, and many municipalities are eager to gain insight into:
- The extent of the risk
- How to mitigate the issue through the new data, local policy changes and potential legislation
To help answer these questions, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, in partnership with HEET (Home Energy Efficiency Team), has convened a panel of municipal, academic, and regulatory experts.
