FREE LECTURE & WALKING TOUR

"Climate Change and New England's Natural Ecosystems"
Jeffrey Dukes, Assistant Professor, Dept.of Biology, UMass Boston

Sunday, May 4
3:00–5:00 PM
Fuller Village Brush Hill, Activities Room
FREE

Learn about the causes and dynamics of climate change and how ecosystems and the ocean act to slow the rate of change, including the expected shifts in New England's climate. Current thinking on which species will benefit, which may suffer, and the reasons why will be discussed. The Boston-Area Climate Experiment, that is altering the climate over 36 small plots of land in Waltham to determine local species’ responses to change, will be highlighted.

Following the lecture, a walking tour of the neighboring historic property, the Wakefield Estate, will highlight aspects of the lecture as they relate to the wide variety of trees on the Estate.

Advance registration requested; please email adulted@arnarb.harvard.edu.

This event is co-sponsored by the Arnold Arboretum and the Wakefield Charitable Trust.
