...and lower MWRA charges too, using a Rain Barrel

A 1/4" rainfall from a 1200 sq. foot roof fills a 55 gallon rain barrel. We get an average annual rainfall of 41",  which would fill 164 barrels or equal 9020 gallons.

The DPW reports that most households in Milton use much less than 9020 gallons. In addition, a large percentage of that water is for household use (cooking, washing) and so rain barrels could easily provide a household's entire lawn and gardening water needs for the whole year. Less MWRA water use is good for the environment and good for your wallet!
