You may have recently received a mailing from the town indicating that you are about to be enrolled in Milton's Community Electricity Aggregation program (CEA) unless you opt out. Perhaps you're wondering if this program is trustworthy and a good deal.
Short answer: yes! Sustainable Milton thinks this program is great for the environment and also a good deal for residents.
Essentially, the "opt-out" nature of the program enables the town to negotiate competitive electricity supply rates that are fixed for three years at a time, while Eversource's default supply rate resets every 6 months.
Since it was launched in October 2021, the Milton's CEA program has saved the average Milton resident substantially on their electricity bill, while also contributing to Milton's climate goals. It increases the proportion of clean, zero-emission electricity we buy beyond what Eversource is required to provide. Future savings are not guaranteed, but the program's track record to-date has been excellent. Unlike with many for-profit third-party suppliers, you can also opt out of the program at any time without penalty, so there's very little to lose and a lot to gain by participating!
The infographic below sums it up nicely!

If you want to contribute to meeting Milton's climate goals and can afford an extra penny per kWh, opting into the 100% green option is one of the least expensive ways to have a big impact on your carbon footprint. Visit this page to learn more!
